JENNY O’HARA-MCDERMOTT has been the director of The Dance Company since 1986. Through the years, the studio has grown and what started as a part-time job, became a full-time teaching endeavor. She has been involved in local theater groups, choreographing and dancing in musicals. Jenny has also been involved in choreography for Jr. Miss pageants and a number of high school musicals, as well as cheerleader/dance team sponsor for local high schools. She has also conducted pom/dance clinics in other high schools in the state. Jenny attends workshops every summer and during the year whenever possible. She is certified to teach ballet, tap and jazz by Dance Masters of America. She has attended DMA Teachers Training School in Buffalo, NY, studying with some of the most distinguished teachers and choreographers in the country. She has two grown children and three grandchildren.
MELISSA TIMMONS was born and raised in Oklahoma City and has been involved in the dance scene there in various ways almost all of her life. She is a member of Dance Masters of America and is a Nationally Certified Examiner in Ballet and Tap. She began her teacher training experience in high school and has taught for over six years. Melissa has studied dance at St. Gregory’s University under the direction of the renowned Liz Reiter and has training in tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, pointe and modern to name a few. In earlier years, Melissa performed throughout Oklahoma and with a specialized event in New York City as a Senior Company Member under the direction of Susan Webb. She is excited to call The Dance Company her home!
SARAH REDMAN is a Grand Island native, and has been taking dance classes since the age of three. She began at The Heartland School of Dance where she stayed through high school, and then continued in college with the Creighton Dance Company in Omaha. Sarah has studied ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, and modern and has earned several examination certificates from the Royal Academy of Dancing and the International Society of Teachers of Dancing. She received Bachelor of Arts degrees in 2010 from Creighton University in Graphic Design and Studio Art with a minor in Dance Performance. She is excited to begin another year at The Dance Company!
NICOLE HICKEN began dancing at the age of three in Grand Island. She joined The Dance Company in 2001 and competed with the competition team. Nicole continued dancing all through high school. She continued her education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and received her degree in Elementary Education. Nicole spends her days working as the Child Safety Program Coordinator at CHI Health St. Francis. Nicole is excited to begin another year at The Dance Company!
ALAINA CLINGENPEEL has been dancing for 18 years, and she has done competitive gymnastics where she received numerous awards in different meets and state meets. She was involved in varsity show choir and on the dance team in high school, where she received awards for best leaps, turns, and most valuable dancer. She was accepted into the Young Americans program but decided to return to Grand Island and The Dance Company.
ERIN MILTON has been dancing since the time she was three. She grew up dancing at The Dance Company for 15 years. After high school grauation she continued her education at Hastings College where she received her degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. Erin spends her days teaching at Grand Island Senior High. She has always had a love for dance and is beyond excited to begin teaching at The Dance Company.
GABLE BALDWIN is from Grand Island and is a former Dance Company student. Gable has a Bachelors of Science degree in exercise, nutrition and health from UNL where he was an All-American athlete. A former junior All-American in gymnastics, Gable has coached and trained athletes in many athletic events. He will be an Acro-Gym instructor as well as a conditioning coach at the studio.
BEV SHELTON, studio office manager, is a Grand Island native. She moved to Colorado in 1982 but returned to her roots in 2001. She and her son, Adam, returned to be closer to their family. Bev’s numerous skills and abilities came from her vast career experiences: a travel agent, working for a construction company, and Nabisco. Her friendly demeanor and strong organizational skills make her a valuable asset to the studio.
